Join us for this season’s first Cross Circuits speaker series, featuring Dr. Huang in a compelling exploration of Shelagh Keeley’s distinctive artistic practice. Dr. Huang will focus on the influence of Japanese gardens, a theme inspired by Keeley’s video work, and discuss how this theme reflects her engagement with space, nature, and meditation through film and drawing. The talk will also highlight Keeley’s broader exploration of poetry, politics, cinema, and architecture, providing a rich context for understanding the depth and scope of her art.
Dr. Bing Huang is an Associate Professor of Art History at Providence College. She earned her Ph.D. from Harvard University. Dr. Huang’s research and publications encompass a wide range of topics, including Han Dynasty tomb art and architecture, Chinese painting, the Maritime Silk Road, Buddhist art, Sino-European artistic exchanges, and the long eighteenth century.
