Steve McQueen
Steve McQueen (British, b.1969) is a filmmaker, screenwriter, and video artist. Though he is perhaps best known for his mainstream films such as 12 Years a Slave (2013), Shame (2011), and Hunger (2008), McQueen is also a highly accomplished and committed fine artist, notably winning the Turner Prize in 1999 and representing Britain during the 2009 Venice Biennale. Born and raised in London, McQueen studied at Chelsea College of Arts and Goldsmiths College, briefly leaving to study film abroad at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
