In tandem with his exhibition, artist Pedro Cabrita Reis will speak with Director of The Power Plant Gaëtane Verna about his innovative and influential approach to painting, sculpture and installation to explore issues of space, architecture and memory as they manifest in his practice.
Steadily receiving international acknowledgement, Cabrita Reis’ work can be characterized by an idiosyncratic philosophical and poetical discourse embracing a great variety of means: painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, and installation. By using simple materials that are submitted to constructive processes, Cabrita Reis recycles almost anonymous reminiscences of primordial gestures and actions repeated in everyday life. Centered in questions relative to space and memory, his works gain a suggestive power of association that aims to reach a metaphorical dimension. Proceeding from an anthropological reflection, Cabrita Reis counters what he perceives as the reductionism of sociological discourse to build work based on silences and indagations.
